Jamiat-e-Ahl-e-Hadees is a prominant religious organisation of Kashmir valley. Ahl-e-Hadees, founded following the demolition of the Babri Masjid in Ayodhya in December 1992, is claimed by India to be working at the behest of Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence. Ahl-e-Hadees is an all-India outfit with recruits from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, operating in tandem with the Lakhmir Singh Rode group of the International Sikh Youth Federation. Indian intelligence reports suggest that the recent phase of the activity of these organisations began with the Taif Summit of the OIC in January 1981. Overseas Islamic organisations and their funds spawned a series of organisations in India and invigorated others. Mohammad Ramzan, chief of the Jamiat-e-Ahl-e-Hadees, was injured in an attack by militants on 29 January 1999, when he was coming out of a mosque here after offering Friday prayers. He died on 15 February 1999.
